Formed officially in 1998, Coldplay are a British rock band who gained fame with their song Yellow in 2000. Coldplay's fourth album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends was released in 2008 and was met with positive reviews and several Grammy Award nominations. In 2011, Coldplay released Mylo Xyloto and the album topped the charts in over 34 countries and was the best-selling rock album of 2011 in the UK. In 2014, Ghost Stories was released and topped the iTunes Store albums charts in over 100 countries. Coldplay's seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams, was released in 2015. Coldplay have won exactly 62 awards from 209 nominations, this includes seven Grammy Awards from 31 nominations. Coldplay have sold over 80 million records interntionally, making them one of the world's best-selling bands. The readers of Rolling Stone voted Coldplay as the fourth-best artist of the 2000's in 2009. As well as making incredibly popular music, Coldplay are active supporters of social and political causes. This includes Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty Interntional. Coldplay have been known to perform at charity events such as Band Aid 20, Sound Relief, The Secret Policeman's Ball and the UK's Teenage Cancer Trust. Coldplay's music style has been compared to a softer rock rather than hard rock. Coldplay are said to be inspired by bands such as Travis, Muse and Blur.
